...There’s No Place Like Home...

Steamboat Midwife is a traditional midwifery service with a holistic approach to a healthy pregnancy and safe home birth.  Owned and operated by Suzanne Tully, a registered midwife with over 30 years of experience, Steamboat Midwife strives to provide confidentiality, care and commitment.

As a proud mother and environmental steward, it was only natural for her to be drawn to this work.  Suzanne started seriously practicing in 1989 after giving birth to her third child.  By assisting  traditional midwives and interning as an apprentice for a range of health providers, she knew her path was destined to connect with this sacred process.  Nothing is more important than bringing life to this earth in an organic fashion that preserves the feminine traditions of our ancestors.

Suzanne committed to the professional world by attending Maternidad La Luz (MLL) in El Paso, TX.  MLL is a busy birth center on the border of Mexico serving women from both countries.  During this time, she enjoyed an amazing opportunity to learn within and serve this special community; not only was it culturally rich, but also provided a vast range of birth experiences.

Suzanne also volunteered in Russian and Haitian birth centers, learning and teaching techniques with other midwifes from different cultural backgrounds.  After traveling multiple times to Central America, she was drawn to incorporate new healing modalities to her regimen.  Specifically, visits to Belize and considerable time in Mexico helped her train in the native Maya Abdominal Massage Technique from Mayan healers.  By consistently advancing her body work skills that support women with fertility, pregnancy, post-partum, digestion, and menopause challenges, she compliments her nutritional counseling programs.

Our resident expert has served hundreds of women in western and rural Colorado, and is fondly known as a Yampa Valley local.  From conscious conception planning, to infancy follow up appointments, she is available to assist mama and field all questions regarding baby.  Suzanne is also a Certified Nutritional Herbalist specializing in women and children.

Why choose a midwife?

The heart of midwifery care is to support the natural progression of pregnancy and birth. Midwives realize childbirth is a natural function of a woman’s body.  Studies repeatedly show that planned home birth attended by a licensed midwife are equally sage with fewer interventions, when compared to hospital birth.  The safety record relies on appropriate screening consultations and transfer of care if complications arise at any time in the pregnancy, birth, or postpartum period.

Suzanne Tully offers complete prenatal care with nutritional and herbal support for optimal health in pregnancy.  Additional Maya Abdominal Massage (MAM) helps to improve blood flow through the circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems. The combination of midwifery, nutrition, and MAM develop an integrated path to physical, emotional, and spiritual well being for mothers of all ages.  Suzanne has openings for Maya Massage and pregnancy counseling for women having hospital births, too.
